Residential structure fire claims one life

Pinetop, AZ – At approximately 1:48 a.m. on May 31, 2026, the Pinetop Fire District, assisted by Timber Mesa Fire and Medical District, responded to a residential structure fire on Apache Trail in Pinetop.

Upon arrival, crews found the residence fully involved and immediately began fire suppression and search operations. Shortly after, firefighters learned that one occupant had escaped the residence and sought help at a neighboring home, while a second occupant remained unaccounted for inside.

Firefighters entered the structure through the rear of the residence and located the second occupant. The occupant was removed from the structure, and life-saving measures were initiated. The occupant was transported to Summit Healthcare, where they were later pronounced deceased. The first occupant was also transported for medical treatment and remains under care at another medical facility.

The Pinetop Fire District extends its appreciation to Timber Mesa Fire and Medical District, the Navajo County Sheriff’s Office, Pinetop-Lakeside Police Department, and our Show Low PD dispatchers for their support and efforts during this incident.

Our thoughts and deepest condolences are with the family, friends, and neighbors affected by this tragedy. The preliminary investigation indicates that electrical may be the source of ignition. The investigation is ongoing.
