FLAGSTAFF, AZ – On May 2, 2026, AZDPS dispatchers received a call of a reckless driver on I-40 in Flagstaff. Troopers were nearby and responded quickly. Upon arrival, Troopers located the vehicle on the emergency shoulder. Troopers attempted to make contact and located a female asleep behind the wheel, and the vehicle was still running. Troopers utilized their patrol vehicles and stop sticks to prevent the driver from fleeing and endangering more people. Troopers woke the driver up and observed signs and symptoms of impairment. The driver was arrested for DUI and reckless driving. A preliminary breath test during booking showed the driver still had a BAC above .100 while being processed.
DUI = JAIL
Drinking and driving is serious and causes significant danger to everyone on the road. If you choose to drink, choose to not drive. Find a ride with a sober driver and if you need to rest while getting sober, don’t do so on the side of the highway.
