PINETOP-LAKESIDE, AZ — Residents of a Navajo County town are being asked to evacuate now due to a large structure fire burning nearby.
The Navajo County Emergency Management and Preparedness office issued the evacuation notice around 7:45 a.m. for people near Hansen and Sunset lanes, just north of SR-260. Residents in this area should evacuate immediately.
People in the evacuation area can go to the Blue Ridge High School gymnasium.
It’s not clear what type of structure is burning.
Around 9:30 a.m., crews controlled the main threat of fire, but there is still significant heat in the area. Water supply is limited as Timber Mesa Fire and Medical District crews are on scene battling the fire. A helicopter is set to drop water in the area.
Evacuations will remain until helicopter operations are complete.
Sunset Lane and SR-260 are currently closed to all traffic as crews respond to the fire. Drivers should use alternate routes.
