The Nelson Fire was discovered 10/5 about 2.5 miles southeast of Forest Lakes, burning in the old Rodeo-Chediski Fire scar. There is no current threat to Forest Lakes although smoke may be visible in the community. See the Watch Duty app for details.
Firefighters are continuing mop-up efforts on the fire. They will continue to patrol and secure the fire edge the next few days. Heavy concentrations of dead and downed fuels are expected to continue burning, producing moderate smoke that may be visible from Highway 260, as well as in the Forest Lakes and Heber/Overgaard areas.
