A student from Northern Arizona University has passed away following a rush event held by a fraternity.

FLAGSTAFF — A student from Northern Arizona University has died following attendance at a fraternity rush event the previous night.

Authorities reported that they were called just before 9 a.m. on Saturday regarding an unresponsive individual at a residence located near Pine Knoll Drive and Lone Tree Road.

Bystanders present at the residence initiated CPR prior to the arrival of law enforcement. Upon the arrival of first responders, they discovered that the man was not breathing.

After conducting a search of the residence and interviewing witnesses at the location, police determined that the student had participated in a rush event for the Delta Tau Delta fraternity.

Officers indicated that several individuals at the residence were consuming alcohol, including the victim and other potential new members.

Three students from NAU, who are also members of the Delta Tau Delta fraternity, have been arrested and taken into custody at the Coconino County Detention Facility.

The chapter’s New Member Educator, 20-year-old Carter Eslick, Vice President, 20-year-old Ryan Creech, and Treasurer, 20-year-old Riley Cass, are all facing charges related to hazing.

Investigators are continuing to examine evidence and are awaiting the official cause of death from the Coconino County Medical Examiner’s Office.

Authorities have stated that the family has been informed, but the identity of the student will not be disclosed at this time.
