Arizona Highway Patrol State Troopers responded to a rollover collision involving a car hauler on I-40 east of Flagstaff in the early morning hours of October 18, 2026. The driver was arrested and booked into the Coconino County Detention Facility on DUI charges, with felony criminal damage charges submitted. Upon arriving at the scene, Troopers observed multiple signs of impairment in the driver. A field sobriety test was initiated but could not be completed because the driver was unable to follow instructions. A subsequent breath test showed the driver had a blood alcohol concentration of 0.168. This level is more than twice the legal limit for most drivers and exceeds the stricter limit for commercial vehicle operators. During questioning, the driver told Troopers that this was the second time he had crashed a commercial vehicle while intoxicated. Despite clear weather at the time of the incident, the driver claimed the truck had slipped, which led to the rollover. The accident resulted in significant property damage. All nine vehicles being transported by the hauler were damaged, and more than 200 feet of Arizona Department of Transportation guardrail were destroyed. The total cost of the damage is estimated at approximately $500,000, affecting 12 separate victims.
