Semi Collision with Bridge Causes Highway 88 Closure.

TORTILLA FLAT, AZ – On January 20, 2026, at around 2 PM, Highway Patrol State Troopers responded to a collision involving a semi-truck with a trailer on the Fish Creek bridge on AZ-88.
The driver ignored several posted signs that he admitted he had seen, including ones stating No Trailers, No Trucks Over 40 feet, One Lane Road, and 4 Wheel Drive Only. The driver stated he continued to drive and ignore the warnings because his GPS said to go that way. AZ-88 was closed as AZDPS, ADOT, and a Heavy-Duty towing company worked to clear the vehicle from the bridge. The bridge was closed for two days as the bridge was inspected for damage.
👮 Be aware of road signs, especially with a commercial vehicle. Roads can narrow, twist, or become rough terrain. Bridges may not be able to hold the weight of a trailer. Navigation systems just show a route but not always a good one. Stay alert and stay safe.
