Inmate Death Under Investigation at Navajo County Jail

Holbrook, AZ: On September 30, 2025, at approximately 9:13 p.m., the Navajo County Sheriff’s Office Communications Center received a report from the Navajo County Detention Center regarding an unresponsive male inmate. Despite immediate lifesaving efforts by jail and medical staff, and continued treatment by emergency medical personnel, the 44-year-old male died from the injuries he received.
The preliminary investigation indicates two inmates engaged in an altercation that resulted in one being killed. Both individuals were inmates of the Arizona Department of Corrections, Rehabilitation and Reentry, temporarily housed at the Navajo County Jail for unrelated court proceedings.
This incident remains an active and ongoing investigation. Navajo County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Unit was assisted by detectives from the Arizona Department of Public Safety Drug Enforcement Bureau and the members of the White Mountain Homicide Task Force, which included Show Low PD and Winslow PD detectives.
